Role Description: Ranger

Category: Site Management, Engagement
Team: Site Management
Reports to: Site Lead
Connected roles/teams: Medics, Sanctuary

Purpose/Context:
Rangers are members of our community who volunteer some of their time to be a point of safety for the community. They check-in, provide information, help out, mediate and de-escalate. The ranger cares for the community’s well-being and the principles. The Rangers are the amazing folk who make things run smoother. It’s a fun role, although of course can sometimes be serious. The best bit is that you meet many people while on shift! If you are a people person this is the perfect volunteer role for you!

Rangers promote safety and awareness of potential hazards to people and the natural environment – protecting both. We address situations within the community that might otherwise require outside interventions. We care for people in mental or physical distress by connecting them to the medic or sanctuary crew.  Rangers may also point out, and remind people of, Leave No Trace issues and principles.

We also walk around and do casual check-ins here and there while spreading a good vibe. Rangers engage with the community and are always ready to help sort things out. The Ranger fulfils their duty in a playful and engaging way.

Rangers are not security personnel or police. They are participants of the community.
